FAQ
Why is my child struggling in school?
It may be that a disability is affecting your child’s educational performance. If so, your child may be eligible for special education and related services that can help.
So, if my child has been found eligible for special education and I agree what’s next?
The next step is to admit your child in a Remediation centre, formulate and implement what is known as an Individualized Education Program – usually called an IEP, after which your child is enrolled in the program.
Why does my child need Speech Therapy?
Speech Therapy would be required if your child is finding it challenging to communicate. If your child finds it difficult to pronounce sounds clearly, or is unable to combine words together, stutters on a few words, struggles to understand a question and respond appropriately, or finds it hard to read, he/she may benefit from speech therapy.
How does Speech Therapy help my child?
A customised plan will be formulated for your child after an initial speech and language evaluation. The focus would be on the areas where his/her communicative skills can be enhanced – either in clarity in speech, receptive and expressive language skills, social interaction, phonetics, fluency, etc. The speech therapist would also train parents on how to maintain and generalise the skills learnt by your child in the speech therapy session. Parental involvement along with speech therapy would definitely benefit the child.
