EARLY INTERVENTION THERAPY
EI is a multi-modal therapeutic educational support system for children between the ages of 3 and 6 with developmental delays in motor skills, speech, language, cognitive development, social interaction, and activities of daily living.
A structured and systematic approach is adopted to reduce the effects of these delays. Individualised Educational Plans (IEPs) are designed to identify and meet the child’s needs in a holistic environment.
REMEDIAL UNIT
The Remedial Unit works with children to improve their ability to read, write and spell independently. Help is provided to encode and decode the words using phonics and their writing skills are improved through the use of sentence strategy.
A typical Remedial class consists of a student teacher ratio of 5:1. The Remedial Unit is split into 2 categories, namely – Learning Disability (LD) and Multi Disability (MD).
Pull outs are also offered for children from mainstream school who have difficulty in reading, writing, spelling, comprehension and math.
PART TIME REMEDIATION
The students remain in school and attend 2 or 3 sessions per week to overcome mild to moderate learning difficulties.
Each session consists of a 45 minute module depending on the child’s requirement.
Part Time Remediation (PTR) helps the child to overcome difficulty in reading, writing, speaking, listening, comprehension and mathematical skills.
Children are mainstreamed after desirable progress at the end of the academic year.
FULL TIME REMEDIATION
The Full Time Remediation program is catered for pull out students from regular school who face severe learning disabilities.
Children are assessed every term and annually. Based on individual performance/progress, they will be mainstreamed.
If the student is not eligible to be mainstreamed after remediation, he/she is referred for Pre-NIOS / Vocational training by the age of 13.
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Children with delays in writing readiness, benefit from Early Intervention with the occupational therapy.
The program enhances the student’s ability to learn, eliminate problems physically and develop information.
Occupational therapy helps to develop, recover and maintain the meaningful activities of an individual and helps to build their attention and concentration.
Occupational therapy in collaboration with the teacher may also be used to improve handwriting.
Regular Occupational therapy minimises behavioural, emotional, physical and psychiatric problems.
AUDIOLOGY & SPEECH THERAPY
Good communication skills are the basis of good behaviour and good learning ability.
Therapy includes receptive & expressive language, articulation, fluency and it helps with motor speech disorders.
The audiologist screens the students for any hearing impairment.
All aspects of speech and language development are integrated in the speech therapy.
VALUE EDUCATION & ISLAMIATH
Value Education (VE) helps the students to become more responsible and sensible. It helps them to understand the perspective of life in a better way and lead a successful life as a responsible citizen. It helps students to develop a strong relationship with family and friends. Education is the responsibility of each and every individual in Islam. To acquire knowledge has been made compulsory by divine commandment. The purpose of education in Islam is to associate and balance physical and spiritual development of humankind. Providing Islamic studies has two main purposes, to teach children to be able to perform their basic religious duties (to pray), and to teach children to ‘continue the good deeds’.
WEAVING THERAPY
Weaving therapy is imparted to students to improve their fine and gross motor skills.
The process of weaving is also therapeutic and helps reduce anxiety levels and improves self – esteem.
Weaving is taught as a skill and can be taken up as an occupation later to provide financial independence.
COUNSELING
Schooling is crucial throughout a child’s developmental years.
Counselling is imparted on developing and improving self awareness and behaviour modification.
The child is also equipped with all the necessary skills required to help him/her face the challenges and build a resilient personality.
MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES ACTIVITIES
Human intelligence can be differentiated into various different intelligences and modalities.
Multiple Intelligences (MI) activities allows students to realize their strengths in learning and gives the teachers an opportunity to understand the dynamics of the multi – faceted students’ in class.
